Around noon on Thursday April 14th, 2016 units were alerted to the infamous Platos Diner in the 7100 Blk. of Baltimore in Co. 7’s? first due for a report of a building fire. Ambulance 801 was in the area and first to arrive to report smoke from the roof and a working kitchen fire. Chief 12B was the next to arrive and confirmed a 1 story commercial building with smoke showing from the roof and established the Baltimore Ave. Command. Chief 12 arrived and worked as the division 1 supervisor with Truck 12 and Engine 1. Units reported fire in the kitchen hood system with extension in the walls and into the roof structure of the building. Units worked for approximately 30 minutes from below while Trucks 9 and 14 performed extensive work on the roof to open up duct work, layers of roofing and adjoining roof structures to expose hidden fire and have the bulk of fire knocked down. Units operated for approximately 2 hours before returning to service. ***Platos Diner has always been a favorite breakfast, lunch, dInner and sometimes snack spot for the CPVFD and we hope they are able to recover and be back open for business soon!
