Engine, Foam and Chiefs Run 9 Building Fire
Around 1400 hours on Monday August 22nd, 2016 Engine Co. 9 was alerted for an outside fire in the 3400 blk. of Kenilworth Ave. Moments later, PSC advised they had reports of a building on fire and started the box alarm. Company 9 arrived immediately after with a large 1 story commercial building-supply distributor, with heavy fire conditions in nearly half of the structure. With Truck 12 on another call and command requesting Foam 12 to the scene, an all volunteer crew staffed Foam 12, Engine 122 and Utility 12 for additional foam and responded on the call. On arrival, E122 established a dedicated water supply through 800′ of 4″ to the Foam Unit while the remainder of the crew set up for class A foam operations. As the bulk of the fire was knocked down with master stream devices the crew began to mop up large amounts of smoldering construction material with a class A foam line. Heavy equipment was eventually brought in to help overhaul the large piles and the foam unit continued to assist with extinguishment and eventually racking up for a total of approximately 6 hours before returning to service. Chief 12 and Chief 12B also responded on the call and assisted with foam operations.
