Engine runs 2nd due to Commercial Building Fire
On the morning of December 14th at approximately 01:45 AM, units from the 4th and 6th battalion were alerted for a commercial building fire in the 10000 block of Rhode Island Ave. Engine 122 responded as second due with 5 firemen. First arriving units advised heavy fire showing from a middle unit of a singe story commercial strip. Engine 122 arrived on scene, and completed E831’s (Beltsville VFD) split lay. While water supply was secured, the Engine crew stretched a large hand line from E831 to back up E831’s crew. Due to sufficient staffing, one College Park fireman assisted in backing up E831’s nozzle man. Engine 122’s crew assisted knocking down the fire, and pushed in to extinguish the remainder of the fire. Units operated for approximately an hour and a half, the cause of the fire is under investigation.
