Foam and Chief run Plane Crash on US Rt 50
On September 12th at approximately 11:20 AM, Public Safety Communications received multiple calls for a small plane crash on Rt 50 in the area of Church Rd. Foam 12 was alerted to respond on the assignment due to the nature of the emergency and inherent hazards. Initial units arrived on scene to find a small general aviation plane that had crashed into the highway, striking a car as well. Patients were assessed and transported to the hospital by ambulance, and several PGFD units remained on scene to handle fuel spilled onto the roadway. Foam 12 operated for over an hour before returning to service. Foam 12 is the only Foam unit in the Prince George’s County Fire/EMS Department, and is dispatched on many special hazard incidents, including plane crashes, train accidents and derailments, and some Hazmat incidents.
